The only buses running a full service from Nailsea to Bristol on this snowy Saturday morning is North Somerset Coaches.

The  X54 two hourly Nailsea to Bristol Express will run the normal Saturday Christmas Shoppers Service today including serving the estate roads.

Company boss David Fricker said: “This is the only bus between Nailsea and Bristol at present.”

North Somerset Council recycling and waste collections have been suspended today due to adverse weather conditions.

A spokesman said: “If the severe weather continues over the weekend then some services which normally open over the weekend may be affected.

“Leave your refuse out and crews will collect when they can, for recycling.

“For food and green waste please present it on your next collection day.”

Luckily North Somerset schools have now broken up for the school holidays.

Christmas is cancelled at Tyntesfield this weekend due to the weather with a visit from Father Christmas and a carol concert among the casualties.

The Clevedon Town versus Thatcham Town is one of the many sporting fixtures postponed due to frozen pitches.

A Clevedon Town spokesman said: “The game has been postponed, not only because of the pitch but also the terraces, car park and Davis Lane are covered with compacted frozen snow and ice.”

The runway at Bristol Airport has reopened after snow caused it to close for several hours.

About 5cm of snow fell across Bristol on Saturday morning with more reported in rural locations to the south of the city.

The airport closed early on Saturday but was reopened by 8am.

First Bus reported buses were suspended in Bath and Weston-super-Mare but Bristol services were mostly running.

According to the BBC news Karen Baxter, from First Bus, said the conditions in some parts of the region meant they could not run services.

"The snow outside is significant and the roads just aren't passable," she said.

On the motorway, a jack-knifed lorry on the M5 near Weston-super-Mare was causing delays.

Jim Veale, of the Highways Agency, said motorists should be wary of the conditions.

He said: "It's snowing quite heavily, especially to the east of Bristol, but we have the snow ploughs and gritters out.

"We have everything open but do drive carefully."

The Met Office is predicting more snow this afternoon and tomorrow.
