Monday brings more snow for Nailsea - updated as severe weather worsens

On The Perrings and other roads with an incline drivers were experiencing great difficulties.
Although as usual in the wintry weather the children on school holidays were out in force on their sledges.
A local taxi company described conditions as 'lethal'.
And by Monday afternoon a severe weather warning had been issues for Somerset.
North Somerset Coaches boss David Fricker said: “Some estate roads in Nailsea are very dangerous and causing extended journey times.”
Nailsea Cars based at Southfield Road said because of the conditions they are ‘snowed under with work’.
Driver Ros MacDonald said: “Although we are coping at this moment we won’t if it gets any worse.”
At 7.15am on Monday Mr Fricker confirmed all services by his local bus company were running their normal routes and sticking to the timetable.
Although the X54 Nailsea to Bristol Express and 2A Nailsea to Backwell rail link was operating normally from 9.15am the Nailsea local services 2 and 4 was split and operated with two buses.
Tyntesfield at Wraxall has already cancelled all its Christmas weekend activities.
North Somerset Council confirmed it has gritted the main roads and had a plentiful supply of salt.
But its recycling and waste collections have been suspended due to adverse weather conditions.
Householders are told to leave their landfill refuse out and crews will collect when they can but recycling, food and green waste will have to wait for the next collection day.
A North Somerset spokesman said: "Due to the severe weather conditions, refuse and recycling collections have been suspended for Monday in North Somerset, and the household waste and recycling centres are also closed.
"The council is advising residents to take in their recycling boxes, food waste caddies and green bags.
"These will be collected on the next scheduled collection date.
"Wheeled bins and refuse sacks should be left out and will be collected as soon as possible.
"On Tuesday the council’s waste and recycling contractors May Gurney will carry out an early morning inspection of the scheduled collection area for Clevedon and will carry out collections where possible.
"In addition, they will carry out waste collections from areas already missed on Friday and Monday where it is safe to do so."
According to the BBC news the artic chill is set to continue this week, with temperatures set to be frozen around zero.
Snowfall at the weekend disrupted many areas around North Somerset with treacherous driving conditions hitting roads throughout the region.
Bristol Airport was closed for five hours between 3am and 8am on Saturday and passengers were warned flights could still be hit due to heavy snow not just in this country but also in many parts of Europe.
Coming home for Christmas Nailsea man Jonathan Antonovics was stuck at Dublin airport on route from Shanghai to Heathrow.
He took five hours to get from the Irish capital airport to a city hotel!
First Bus said buses were running although some had to stick to main roads.
On Saturday morning all services in areas including Weston-super-Mare and Bath were suspended with reviews continuing during the day.
A jack-knifed lorry on the M5 near Weston caused problems but otherwise the motorway network was running in the Bristol area.
On the railways, the poor weather meant many services were subject to delay, alteration and cancellation.
Bristol Airport PR manager Jacqui Mills, PR said 14 flights were cancelled on Saturday and five were cancelled yesterday, due to closures of destination airports such as Edinburgh.
She said: "We have a very strong snow and adverse weather strategy.
"We bring in extra staff, keep the runway brushed and carry out anti-icing procedures."
The airport, which handles 90,000 customers from December 18 to 24 for the Christmas getaway, laid down 5,000 tonnes of grit on its car parks and walkways on the weekend alone.
A Met Office forecaster said today it will continue to be very cold with the temperature set to remain at zero and the chance of more snow.
He said: "There could be snow spells from the south, affecting Bristol by two to five centimetres and as much as 15 to 20 centimetres on the Mendips.
"Tuesday and Wednesday it will be generally dry, with temperatures as high as 1C.
"On Thursday there will be a north easterly breeze, with temperatures not above freezing and the risk of light snow."
The spokesman said there was a chance of some disruption, with heaviest snow forecast for Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire.
RAC spokesman Alan Wilcock said: "It's important that you stay on the main treated roads wherever possible.
"It may be tempting to take a shortcut to beat the traffic but it's also likely to be far more treacherous."
