Nailsea Rounders Club was founded in 2006 by Gina Provis. Gina, who lives in Nailsea and also plays hockey, was keen to find an enjoyable, sociable sport for the summer months, and with fond memories of school-day rounders, decided to start a rounders club.

Gina bought all the kit herself, advertised locally for ladies to come along and join her and marked out a make-shift pitch on The Grove Sports Centre playing fields.

One of the first ladies to join was Sally Kingston, who has been instrumental in the club's organisation ever since while Gina remains the 'face' of the club and is ably assisted in its organisation by other long-time members Elizabeth Milne, Ceri Manton, Rose Lancaster, Laura Simpson and Sarah Cogzell.

The Meerkats meet on Friday evenings at 7pm for practice, while matches are usually played on Wednesday nights against the two other major clubs in the area – Clevedon and Weston.

This season, the Meerkats won both matches against Weston, won at home to Clevedon and lost a close fought match away to Clevedon (see the report on Nailsea People: http://www.nailseapeople.co.uk/sport/Commend-Meerkats/story-6714639-detail/story.html).

Currently boasting more than 30 adult members and around 10 juniors, the club is thriving, but always looking for new players.

If you are interested in joining the Meerkats, just come along to one of our practice sessions: the season starts in April and goes on until the end of August – find us on the front page of Nailsea People under 'useful links' or go to http://nailsealadiesrounders.blogspot.com/2010/08/awards-for-2010.html for practice dates and contact details.
