Three is the Coincidental Number

Nailsea 1st XI's symmetrical seasaw of a season continues.
Chipping
Sodbury 1st XI: 193 all out (42.5 overs)
Nailsea 1st XI: 101 all out
(36.2 overs)
The long journey and continental weather clearly
took its toll on the players this week as Nailsea's batsmen put in a
defensive display to rival Terry, Upson and the rest!
Nailsea's
bowlers (not preturbed by their captain putting them straight to work in
the record temperatures) started well, reducing Sodbury to 76-5.
Richard Morris (2-52) and Pete Hardcastle (0-28) bowled tightly, putting
the batsmen under pressure which allowed spinners Harry Hope (1-23) and
Russ Baker (2-24) to come on and turn the screw.
However, a key
partnership of 97 between John Rendell (51) and Craig Scully (46) got
the home side back on track, before Nick Jury (3-27) and Steve Allard
(2-36) claimed the remaining wickets to set up a tantalising second
half.
Unfortunately for the travelling supporters, Nailsea were
no sooner back in the game than they were out of it again.
Russ
Baker was back on the bench before the scoreboard had got going and the
replacements had as much impact as Emile Heskey, and equal difficulty
scoring!
The visitors were 57-6 when Richard Morris came to the
crease, but his resilient 21 (one of only two players to record double
figures) was not enough to save the day as Nailsea slumped to 101 all
out in the 37th over.
And so, a long journey home and plenty of
questions to be answered...shame we don't have a foreign coach we can
pin it on!
The good news for Nailsea is that their season now
reads LLLWWWLLL, following a third successive defeat. Tune in next week
therefore to read about the first of three sensational consecutive
victories to come!
