The royal oak experience I had was overwhelmingly pleasant and the new decor has given the pub a new lift! Since going back there, thier has always been lots more families in there also having a good time! The food came out hot and the portions was more than expected, at a very reasonable price! I recommend anybody who wants to have a pub lunch too consider the Royal Oak, brilliant drink prices and fantastic entertainment! A big well done to all the staff and the manager!

We had been away all weekend and went we got home the cupboard was bare.
So the choices were going supermarket shopping or eating out.
After some deliberation we decided to try the Royal Oak in Nailsea High Street.
Since it reopened a few weeks ago we have popped in a couple of times for an evening drink but had as yet not tried the new food menu.
It arrived hot, filling and served with smile – couldn’t say better than that.
We ordered a Beef Madras and a Chicken Tikka Masala which are served with rice and two poppadums on the side of the plate.
All main meals cost £8 when you order two together but the naan bread is an extra 99p.
Starters and combos are offered from £1.99, there are a range of burgers in buns, steaks and chips, mixed grills and pub favourites like an all day breakfast or sausage and mash.
All are very reasonable priced.
I asked the friendly crowd who sit just inside the door if they had tried the food and did they like it?
“Like it?” said Cyril, “Why I eat here every day.”
He couldn’t say better than that.

ReportThe mighty oak tree at the entrance of the pub is part of Nailsea Town Council logo as the High Street hostelry is steeped in local history. The late Adge Cutler and his band the Wurzels recorded their first two albums live from the Royal Oak High Street pub which included the iconic number Drink Up Thee Zider. Recently landlord Martin Spours joined the protest against plans to increase the duty on cider by 10 per cent. To be truthful the pub has seen better days and it is sorely in need of a refit. It was the first pub we visit when we arrived in the town in the late 1970s and we used the upstairs room as the venue for our wedding reception in the early 1980s. It was the place town councillors went to after late night meetings across the room in their temporary building off Heath Road. It has a lovely, large beer garden and sells an assortment of ales to satisfy the real beer drinkers. From the outside it is an impressive building and inside you will find the locals friendly.
