Volunteers are gearing up to make Nailsea burst into bloom this summer.

Members of the Nailsea in Bloom group are busy preparing the town ready for its visit by South West in Bloom judges in July.

This year the 20-strong group of volunteers are revamping the flower bed at the Station Road car park.

The bed has been cleared of all shrubs and is due to be replanted in the next fortnight.

The work follows on from a project over the last two years to revamp the flowerbed outside Iceland.

A new stone planter was built on the land and is planted up each year as part of the town's entry in the competition.

Other flower beds in the town are jointly managed, with the one outside Tesco cared for by Nailsea Women's Institute.

Guides have also created a flowerbed, planted in the shape of a trefoil, at Stockway South.

This year's colour theme for the town is red, orange and yellow and baskets and pots across the town will start to be filled with summer bedding in May.

Businesses will also be asked to decorate their windows with a floral summer theme, ready for the judging visit.

The town has been awarded a gold medal in the South West in Bloom competition for the last two years.
