SUPPORTERS of Nailsea & Backwell Rugby Club staged a fundraising car boot sale on Saturday on a field between Nailsea and Backwell.
More than 35 cars and vans set out their wares from 9am to 2pm with some enthusiast early arrivals.
Organiser Carol Neale said: “The first customers arrived at 7.10am and queued for cups of coffee but we said hang-on we haven’t even had time to boil the kettle yet.”
With the u10 and u12 teams both finding sponsors to pay for their kits the u13s were forced to tackle fundraising to find the £1,000 needed for match shirts.
And at their first attempt the event made £344.75
Carol added: “The Clevedon Mercury made a typo and reported we were raising money for rugby skirts – we laughed and thought all publicity is good publicity.”
The youngsters play at West End Park, Nailsea, and details of Sunday morning and Wednesday evening training sessions and fixtures are posted on their website.
New players are welcome.
Chairman Pete Reakes was reported saying recently: “The standard of rugby here is superb.”
The u13s are at home to Cleve on Sunday, October 4.
