Register your child for school in Nailsea

We need a population boom in Nailsea if all the school places are to be filled next year.

Nailsea School is hosting an open evening for the parents of potential new pupils

People are predicting some primary schools will have to close if they can't attract enough pupils putting teaching jobs in jeopardy.

If your child is due to start or transfer school next year then now is the time to apply for places.

If your child was born between September 1, 2006 and August 31, 2007 they can start at a primary or infant school from September 2011.

For children currently in their final year (Year 6) of primary or junior school, they will transfer to a secondary school in September 2011.

The parents of North Somerset children will be receiving a letter through their child's primary school about how to apply for a secondary school place and the letter will include a unique identification number that will make it easier to apply online.

The closing date for primary and infant schools is midnight on Saturday, January 15, 2011.

The closing date for secondary school applications is much closer at midnight on Sunday, October 31 this year.

School admissions are always a time of anxiety. The main reasons for not getting a school of choice are
1. Not making three choices.
2. Applying late.
3. Moving into a community after the application date cut off.
Many of those in Portishead who complain fail on one or more of tbe above. There are no bad schools in Nailsea and good ones in all the villages the primary and secondary are in fact particularly good and getting even better.
