One of the most high-ranking women police officers in Somerset has died suddenly at the age of 41.

Tributes have been paid today to Chief Superintendent Sandy Padgett who was district commander for West Somerset. She died suddenly on Saturday, October 3.

Chief Constable Colin Port said: “This tragic loss has come as a great shock to everybody and our deepest sympathies go to her husband and children.

“Sandy will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and worked with her. She was an exceptional police officer who was extremely well respected by all those fortunate enough to work with her.”

Chief Superintendent Padgett, a mother-of-two, was born in Bristol and lived in Somerset for a decade.

She had previously served as a chief inspector and superintendent covering East Somerset.
