A PETITION against the National Grid proposal to construct a 400KV overhead power line to link the proposed new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point to Avonmouth has been launched.
Go to http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/HinkleyConnction/ and make your voice heard.
The two routes for North Somerset would cut through many communities and schools.
Health fears from high voltage cables have been well-documented say the Save Our Valley group. It calls the proposal ‘reckless to say the least’.
Added to which at the height of some 46m the pylons would be visible for many miles and detract from the natural beauty of the Mendip Hills.
At no point it appears has the option of routing this cable via an undersea route up the Bristol Channel been given due consideration, say the campaigning group.
Supporters of the petition to Number 10 request that the government actively force the National Grid to route this cable under the sea to protect peoples health and save North Somerset landscape.
