As reported at thisisbristol.co.uk, a Nailsea local has begged people to volunteer for Childline as she has done for the last two years.  Lynn Brimmell, a grandmother-of-one, racks up 140 miles of travelling each week as she lives in Nailsea but volunteers as a counsellor for Childline in Exeter.

Ms Brimmell, who is 60, is retired from working in the creative services department at Avon Fire and Rescue Services, but her energy and desire to help those in need have not diminished.  She is still passionate about helping those children who call Childline in their hours of need.

The sorts of problems facing those children range from peer pressure and bullying at school, to sexual abuse at the hands of their parents or guardians at home.  There is no doubting the good work that Childline does in answering the calls of these children, but according to Ms Brimmell there is a serious need for more volunteers, as one in three such calls go unanswered.

There are currently 40 volunteers based at the Exeter branch of Childline, but the aim is for that number to increase to 150.  In order for this to happen, both more money and more volunteers are needed.  If you are interested in donating money to Childline or volunteering as a counsellor, then you should call Patrick Weaver on 01225 329704.

More volunteers. A sympathetic ear is all you need to make a life changing difference!

I used to volunteer on a nightline for students at university and found it very rewarding. This calls need to be answered. Its amazing how things can seem insurmountable and overwhelming to children... we put so much pressure on them. Please volunteer if you can.

Childline does so much good work.  Anyone who has the time to do this really should  Or at least give money.
