A FANTASTIC five students from Nailsea School have been offered Oxbridge places this year.

The record was set in 1989 when a magnificent seven students took up places either at Cambridge or Oxford universities.

The former grammar school is proud of its past and present successes especially since the 1,300-pupil comprehensive moved into a £30million new building in September.

Head teacher David New said: “We are delighted that so many of our Year 13s have done so well against such stiff competition to get places in these universities.”

Applicants for Oxford and Cambridge, as well as completing the normal application form, have to go through interviews, tests, and sometimes submit work too.

Head of sixth form Jon Reddiford said: “I am so pleased when any of our students receives an offer from their chosen university.

“Getting offers from Oxford and Cambridge is tougher than from anywhere else, as there are 10-11 applicants for each place.

“The fact that so many of our Year 13s have offers from these universities is testament to how hard they have worked and prepared.”

Students with Oxford offers are Ben Harris who has applied to do Maths; Sam Knight, Engineering; Andrew McArdle, Medicine and Natasha Crook, Classics.

Imogen Daynes has been offered a place at a Cambridge college to read History.

Mr New added: “Our congratulations go to all these students and to all the our Year 13s who are receiving offers from their chosen universities.”
