EDF pull out of UK, No Nuclear? so No Pylons for North Somerset?!

Dear All,
-
Brian Mathew & the Lib Dems Campaigning against Pylons in North Somerset
This morning on the Today programme it was announced that EDF is pulling out of its UK electricity supply companies, it is thus I believe highly unlikely that they will continue with leading nuclear build in the UK. If I am right then there will be no new nuclear at Hinkley Point and thus no need for Pylons across North Somerset!
It also means that the UK will have to get serious over where its energy is going to come from in the future and this means following Lib Dem policies on 1) reducing wasteful use of energy (increasing insulation etc) 2) increasing alternative energy supplies especially sea systems such as Severn Energy (low head barrage or otherwise) and 3) working with Europe to invest in the MENA project (energy from the deserts) with massive solar arrays (Mirrors and water pipes) providing energy via a Europe wide super conducting grid.
We are most definitely living in interesting times
Best wishes
Brian

If you had read the BBC news report it said:- " It is not selling its power generation and supply interests, which means business and retail customers will continue to buy their electricity from EDF."

ReportI have been intouch with ITV West, and they are saying that it won't affect EDF's involvement with Hinkley..... it did sound too good to be true... Best wishes and sorry if I have raised hopes: Brian Mathew Lib Dem Spokesman for North Somerset

ReportThanks for this Brian. For those who don’t know ownership of one of Britain’s largest electricity distribution networks has changed hands again. The current French owner EDF sold it on to a Hong Kong-based consortium for £5.8bn, it was announced this morning. Billionaire Li Ka-shing and two of the companies in his empire, Cheung Kong Infrastructure (CKI) and Hongkong Electric, won an auction for the three power distribution grids and private power networks. While I was editor of the Clevedon Mercury we won the EDF south west free weekly newspaper of the year. Cheung Kong Infrastructure (CKI) and Hongkong Electric south west free weekly newspaper of the year doesn’t have the same ring, does it? I hope Sue is wrong and the energy company doesn’t go ahead with any overland pylon plan.
