A creative team with a difference is hoping to breathe new life into Nailsea and North Somerset by launching a unique business venture, The Blue Room.

This exciting idea is the inspiration of Sheila Clifton and her two daughters, Nicola and Amy, who are combining their talents to create a special space for local artists to display and sell their work. It has become apparent that there is a significant amount of talented artists within the area needing an outlet for their work. The Blue Room is hoping to represent a diverse range of artwork from photography to stained glass, jewellery to unique pottery and will also showcase visiting artists.

The family has a wealth of creative talent; Sheila makes unique bespoke handbags from recycled and reclaimed materials. Her daughter Nicola designs and makes beautiful beaded jewellery, Amy is a writer and brings to The Blue Room her broad ranging and diverse business experience.

With a heavy emphasis on supporting local artists who use recycled and eco-friendly materials, they will provide a showroom space, promote and market the work by the artists, as well as dealing with customers personally.  In keeping with the aims of the project, the interior of the shop has also been designed using local reclaimed materials.

This is a family business in every sense of the word as Sheila and the girls also share the care of David, Sheila’s husband and the girls’ father, who suffers from a progressive degenerative disease (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy).  Sheila gave up her full time job as an Accounts Manager of a local Publishing Company to care for her husband and finds that focussing on her creative skills is a great help in coping with the challenges she faces.

The family is very close-knit and bursting with enthusiasm and energy, ensuring that this project will go from strength to strength.  Most importantly, they are always looking at ways to develop and adapt the business to suit the changing economic climate.  A certain recipe for success!
