Girls you are spoilt for choice if you want to enjoy a beauty treatment in Nailsea.

You can indulge in a Chinese massage, get your fuzzy bits removed, flash some lush long false eye lashes, pamper your feet with a pedicure or nail some pillar box red varnish with a manicure at salons in the town.

Being a domestic Goddess and yummy mummy all at the same time is exhausting but now the children are back to school take some time for you.

According to Wikipedia, the free online encyclopaedia, a beauty salon or beauty parlour is a place for cosmetic treatments for men and women.

Um, not sure we want the boys should muscle in on our own pretty woman domain but I suppose this is what equality is all about!

There is a distinction between a beauty salon and a hair salon and although many small businesses do offer both a beauty salon tends to provide services related to skin health, facial aesthetic, foot care, aromatherapy, — even meditation, oxygen therapy, mud baths and more.

So what do we have to offer locally?

Beauty@22 is owned by former Weston College lecturer Jo Blake.

It was Jo’s job to train tomorrow’s beauty therapists.

From small beginnings - she once ran her business from a shed in her garden – Jo has built a formidable reputation as one of the best beauticians in town.

She offers Dermalogica facials, Jessica manicures and pedicures, PHD waxing and Sienna x spray tanning at her lovely converted cottage in Heath Road.

The Beauty Box is upstairs at Reflections hair salon at Nailsea High Street.

It is run by qualified electrolysis Danni Jones and her business partner beautician Louise Fry.

Apart from the usual hands, feet and dermalogical facial treatments Louise does massage, eyelash perming and permanent eyebrow and eyelash tints.

And Danni removes the broken veins and unwanted hair.

Chiropodist Anne Walton-Davies is the owner of Beauty Incorporated and Nailsea Foot Clinic, at High Street, which is a well established local business.

She says on her website ‘beauty is all about the enjoyment of creating your own unique style and having fun choosing from a wide range of treatments that are perfect for you in a private, friendly and relaxed atmosphere’.

Anne offers lots of nice beauty treatments and some specialist non-surgical cosmetic procedures for the not-so-nice things in life.

The pleasant High Street salon also has a specialist nail bar and close to free town centre car parking.

The newest additional to Nailsea is The Beauty Rooms, above SP Hair Company, at the other end of the High Street opposite Tesco.

Run by Amanda Simpson – sister-in-law to Carolyn Price, of The Groom Room – it opened recently in a plush set of rooms above the hairdressers owned by Sue Pickles.

It has four chic treatment areas, relaxation room, nails and pedicure lounge, bathroom and shower facilities. Its beauty therapists use the world renowned Guinot skincare range.

The famous cosmetic company was founded 40 years ago by French chemist Rene Guinot and is now called Guinot Paris.

Further services include aromatherapy massage, hypnotherapy, reflexology, spiritual and Reiki healing plus much more.

At The Beauty Rooms you can even get your fortune told by an Angel card reading!

Face Values, at Clevedon Walk, also use the Guinot range for its facials. It moved several years ago from its smaller salon at The Arcade.

Face Values sponsor a local female football team and its modern, spacious premises are opposite the new Waitrose supermarket which is opening later this month.

Owner Marisia Spencer is hosting an event for The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillian Cancer Support on Friday, September 24.

Last year nationwide 43,000 people registered and it raised £7.9 million.

Good luck Marisia.

Face Values also offer a professional nail service using Essie polish.

Remember the film Legally Blonde where the character played by Reese Witherspoon had a therapeutic relationship with her manicurist!

Another new business is Beautifque, at Old Church Road.

Sandwiched between Nailsea People poll award-winners New Images hairdressers and Premier Stores newspapers and general stores it completes this row of edge-of-town shops.

Beautifque opened in June and offers waxing, eyelash extensions, pedicure and manicure, massage, fake bake tanning and Mary Cohr facials.

Currently it has an introductory 10 per cent discount with its flyer and £5 off facials but conditions apply.

Clear Complexion, at Station Road, Backwell, is all about the quest for flawless skin.

Opposite the parish hall at the crossroads it has the new Lunchbox sandwich shop opening next door but its other neighbour the library has moved to Backwell Leisure Centre and the unit is currently empty.

Treatments include non-surgical facelifts, all sorts of massage from Balinese to hot stones and it has a make-up service.

It is open weekdays (except Wednesdays) from 8.30am-9.30pm and alternative Saturdays from 8.30am-6pm.

Leading beauty therapist and personal trainer Rosie Drew works throughout North Somerset.

Rosie’s Beauty, on the ground floor at The Old Vicarage, Nailsea, offers a unisex service which includes various massage styles, waxing treatments, spray tanning, nutritional advice, personal training and figure improvement.

On her website she says ‘whatever your waxing needs, from Brazilian wax to a Hollywood wax Rosie will do it quickly and professionally’.

Ouch, the threading method sounds less painful.

The clinic is opposite Nailsea library.

But beauty isn’t just skin deep.

And if it’s the outer you that needs some improvement try In Shape for Ladies, at Crown Glass Place.

It is upstairs above Iceland.

In Shape for Ladies prides itself on a fun and friendly atmosphere with a gym which boasts no complicated machines just straightforward, self-adjusting hydraulic equipment.

Among its top reasons to join are no males and no mirrors.

In a recent diet challenge 20 of its members lost seven stone in weight which can’t be bad.

She uses acupuncture, traditional Chinese remedies which include cupping and massage and Western diagnostic methods to help her patients.

From yoga to dance classes but if you want to go a step further than the painless gym why not gain a Angelina Jolie-style tattoo with the or body piercing?

Nailsea ink is at the Modern Art Tattoo behind the High Street. Artist Matt Spice is the man in charge of the studio which does professional and personal tattoo art and body piercing in all genres.
