One step too far?

I have just seen contractors strimming right to the bases of trees in the Linear Park in Nailsea. As an environmentalist I always wonder why it is necessary to keep everything so neat and tidy, but I am prepared to accept that there is an alternative point of view. I do wonder though,is there anyone out there who would object to long grass and the odd wild flower (or weed if you prefer) growing round the base of trees? Surely this is taking things one step too far. I wonder how much it costs? I would be genuinely interested to hear what other people think.

Well said
Much more grass could be left long. This would also in time provide better wildlife habitat, to say nothing in the financial savings of only mowing once or twice a year.
