As part of its introductory programme of art and craft taster sessions starting on 27th September, The Blue Room, Nailsea, will host a free community sewing session in support of "Dress a Girl Around the World". The UK coordinator, Louise Horler takes delivery of dresses (and shorts for boys) from all over the UK, and arranges distribution to areas in need around the world. New owner of The Blue Room, Sharon Brown, said, "Supporting initiatives like this is integral to my vision for The Blue Room and its role in the local community. If we can make 25 dresses in one day it would be a great start to what I hope will become a regular programme." Taking part requires only basic machine sewing skills and sewing tutor, Rachel Millener, will be on hand to help out if needed. Sharon added "If you want to take part but can't sew, why not come to one of our Learn to Sew workshops on either Saturday 5th or Tuesday 15th October?" Anyone interested in taking part should contact The Blue Room to reserve a place.
The introductory workshop programme ranges from sewing and knitting to glass etching and porcelain bead making, with sessions lasting from 2 to 4 hours. At half term there will be some sessions suitable for children aged 10+. For most workshops all materials are supplied and included in the price. Places are limited and booking is essential. Further information about all of these events can be found on our website www.the blue-room.co.uk, by visiting The Blue Room, or by phoning 07456 517086.
