Congresbury win cup game with late display
STOCKWOOD GREEN 2
Congresbury continue their good start to the season with an away win in the Division Cup. The visitors started brightly, creating good early crossing chances but failing to deliver the final product. Persistence paid off and after 20 minutes Congresbury winger Kai Hammond made space on the left and delivered a pinpoint cross met by striker Nigel Lush who fired home to put the visitors ahead. Stockwood were level within 5 minutes of the restart when the Congresbury keeper, Dan Bullock, came to collect an attacking free kick and saw the ball fly into the back of the net after misjudging the flight of the ball.
The second half saw the away side retake the lead after Lush latched onto a poor clearance by the Stockwood keeper and looped the ball into the top corner. The home side refused to give in and again drew level after the ball got turned in on the back post after a melee in the box. With the game tight Bury took the lead again in the last 15 minutes when a driven cross from Germaine Hughes was met by the head of Tony Tuckfield glancing the ball home. The lead seemed too much for the tiring home side at this late stage and Congresbury edged further ahead with a well taken goal by Hughes in the last 5 minutes of the match.
