Congresbury v Burnham United Reserves.
Congresbury’s run continues after tight contest
Congresbury’s unbeaten start to the season continues after a narrow win against Burnham United Reserves this weekend. Congresbury got off to a good start when winger Germaine Hughes fired narrowly wide within the first minute. Bury continued to pressure the Burnham defence and were unlucky not to go ahead when Tony Tuckfield was denied by a good one on one stop by the Burnham keeper. Bury finally broke the deadlock on 20 minutes when a well delivered corner by skipper Moe Lister was met by the head of his brother, Murray, looping the ball into the back of the net. The first half didn’t go all Bury’s way with keeper Danny Bullock being called into action late in the half making a one on one save. The second half continued in much the same fashion as the first, with good chances missed by the Bury front line. The lead could have been extended when Germaine Hughes’s solo run and resulting effort on goal hit the post. Trying to hold on to the narrow lead, the last couple of minutes of the game were nervous for the home side but they finished the game unscathed and continue to lead the Somerset Division 2 West League. New managers Rick Adams and Kev Hawkins will be happy with the clean sheet going into a run of crucial away games starting with league rivals Creech St Michael this Saturday.
