Are you sitting quietly? Then we will begin...

A story-telling weekend is being held at the Tithe Barn, Nailsea.

On Friday and Saturday afternoon, November, 9-10, from 2-4.30pm primary aged children can listen and learn as two local authors read aloud.

Although it is free there may be a small charge for some of the workshop activities.

Author Maureen Nicholls will be talking about and reading from her book Sylvester – a story about kites and Amy Trevaskus will be reading stories from her books for younger children.

Children are invited to bring along any books they have finished for a swap session and new books will  be on sale.

Telling Tales at the Tithe Barn has been organised by the trustees.

Maureen will be holding her sessions from 2.30-3pm and 3.30-4pm on Saturday for six to 10-year-olds while Amy will be reading to the younger children from 3-3.30pm.

The one hour kite workshop cost £2 per session and is at 2.15-3.15pm and 3.30-4.30pm.

All materials are provided to enable children to make an original mini-kite that will (should!) fly.

North Somerset Library Service is running story-based quizzes, puzzles and activities and there will be tea and cakes available for the accompanying grown-ups.

A Share Stories event for all lovers of a good yarn is tonight, Friday, November 9, 7.30-10pm.

This is a free open mic event and anyone wishing to share stories with an appreciative audience should phone Barbara Calvert on 01275 790399 or email to book a slot – no longer than 10 minutes please.

And on Saturday from 10am-noon Deborah Grice will be running a creative writing workshop for those who have already made a start or for anyone who has ever felt the desire to put pen to paper.

This is two hours of fun activities in a supportive atmosphere.

Refreshments are provided and the cost is £10 per person.

In the afternoon from 2-4.30pm there is a chance for younger story lovers to swap stories.

And at 7-9.30pm is the time for Celebrating Stories, with a mixed-bag of story-related entertainment and live performances, culminating in the presentation of prizes to the winners of this year's Somerset Short Story Competition.

Hear the winning stories by some of our best local writers. £5 per person.

Details of all these events can be found on the Tithe Barn website by clicking HERE.
