The 'Cases' Somerset Rebels achieved the first half of what could be an historic 'double' for the club when they won speedway's Premier League Cup at Ipswich last night, the 14-point lead that they built up in last Friday's 1st leg at the Oaktree Arena proving to be more than sufficient as the Rebels won on aggregate 95-90, they losing by just 9 points in last night's 2nd leg at Ipswich's Foxhall Stadium.

Crucially, the Rebels kept things tight in the first half of last night's 2nd leg, so much so that they still held a 10-point aggregate lead after 8 of the 15 heats and although Ipswich got to within 2 points of Somerset with consecutive maximum race wins in heats 9 and 10, a double point tactical race win for Rebels guest Craig Cook, who scored a flawless maximum, he being unbeaten in his 4 rides, pushed Somerset's lead back out to 5 points, with Kyle Newman then taking a stunning race win in heat 14, to confirm the Rebels as the 2012 Premier League Cup winners.

Somerset will now look to add the Premier League Championship Trophy to last night's League Cup triumph as they took on Scunthorpe in the Play-Off Final, 1st leg at Somerset's Oaktree Arena tonight (Friday), with Scunthorpe staging the 2nd leg on Sunday afternoon.
