SPEEDWAY - REBELS 2013 SEASON STARTS HERE
By Deegeetee | Wednesday, March 20, 2013, 22:52
For fans of the 'Cases' Somerset Rebels, the long winter months that have left them devoid of speedway action is now at an end as the Rebels launch their 2013 season this Friday (22nd) with their Press and Practice Day.
With the afternoon session of the day restricted to members of the media, sponsors, season ticket holders and specially invited guests, the gates will be open to fans at 5pm in order that they may attend the evening practice session.
"The time for talking and wondering about how the season will pan out is now at and end," said Rebels promoter Debbie Hancock, "and I am sure that the fans are as eager for the season to start as the promotion and management team here at the Oaktree Arena are."
"We had a great year in 2012, winning the League Cup and narrowly missing out by a single race point on winning the Premier League Championship, so the 'class of 2013' have a tough act to follow, but I know that they are well up for the task and season that lies ahead of them."
"So we look forward to meeting up with as many fans as possible at Friday's Press and Practice Day, and if anyone has not been to speedway before I urge them to give it a try, I am sure they won't be disappointed."
"It is, in essence, an extreme sport, being fast and furious with 4 riders racing head to head in each heat on 500cc motorbikes that have no brakes, but it can combine that by providing a great family night out with people able to visit the pits prior to the meeting getting underway to see the riders preparing for the 15 heats of breath-taking action that lies ahead."
Following Friday's Press and Practice Day, the Rebels competitive action commences on Good Friday (29th March) with a challenge match against local West Country rivals, the Plymouth Devils, the turnstiles opening at 5.30pm with the action getting underway at 7.30pm.
