REVIEW: Cinderella at Bristol Hippodrome

Speaking Bristle and sparkling with bling this is the most over-the-top pantomime I have ever seen.

But what do you expect in a production starring TV's Pineapple Dance Studio and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here personality Louie Spence playing the prince's righthand man and wedding planner Dandini.

This all-singing and all-dancing show was manic with absolutely fabulous costumes, fantastic scenery, fine-tuned slapstick sequences and sensational stunts.

Comedian Andy Ford worked his silly socks off as Buttons and beautiful singer and actress Suzanne Shaw, looking a deadringer for the sorority queen played by Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde, sang her heart out in the title role.

For me this is the best ever Christmas show staged at the Hippodrome.

The two granddaughters, aged six and nine, who accompanied me didn't stop shouting, cheering, booing or waving their sparkly wands.

Super ugly sisters Graham Hoadly and Paul Burnham went into comedic meltdown playing the suprisingly named Tulisa and Miley while would-be Pop Idol and West End leading man Andrew Derbyshire provided the eye-candy as the handsome prince.

And David Roper as Baron Hardup and Liz Robertson as Fairy Godmother complete the marvellous line-up.

From the tip of Cinderella's crystal dance shoes to the top of Dandini's laddered pink stockings this was a naughty but very nice show.

Okay it was a little corny, very camp and littered with double entendres but the young-at-heart loved it.

I lost count of the number of times Louie did the splits - even his pink stockings were laddered by the end.

With the Ghostbuster theme music playing menancingly in the 3-D haunted woods scene my grandchildren took to hiding behind their hands when to the spooks and spiders seemingly jumped out at them.

Cinderella is a real Christmas treat for the family and plays until Sunday, January 5 with tickets at £10-£35 with concessions available at certain performances.
