Called the 'provisonal' Rotary Club of Nailsea Miners the group will be officially recognised once it reaches a membership of 25 - a target it is close to obtaining.
At its debut meeting with a speaker it heard from Bristol-based commercial solicitor Chris Mitchell about the Get Involved Trust.
Chris, his wife Anne and daughter Jennie set up and have worked with the GI Trust charity supporting Ugandan street children.
The new group is aimed at a younger membership of both men and women and are looking to expand their numbers.
People interested in joining should contact Alison Hull on 0777 361 3510 or email thehulls@btopenworld.com.
Alternatively drop into The George at Backwell at 7.45pm on a Tuesday evening.

We've just raised £755 to support the work of the GI Trust.
Thanks to all who bought tickets for our Winter Warmer raffle with the chance to win a trolley dash around Waitrose and to all our generous sponsors.
