Nailsea Town Council is finally up to full strength when it co-opted a new face at its meeting on Wednesday night.

Richard West, of Cheddar Close, is the new councillor.

At the May district, town and parish elections Nailsea failed to attract its full quota of 20 people wanting to be town councillors.

So in July it co-opted belly-dancing solicitor Saeeda Jameel and former chairman Neil Middleton to fill vacancies.

Then a further vacancy was create by the resignation of councillor Anne Kemp.

Mrs Kemp was forced to resign because of a clash in committee times in her role on the district council.

Newly married Mr West is a retired transport worker.

He said: ""I have been a Nailsea resident for the past 10 years and I have to say that the town is probably the nicest in which I have ever lived.

"It is a friendly and relaxed place with a strong sense of community.

"Nailsea undoubtedly has not only a proud heritage but also a bright future, and I would like to play a part in this."
