Since its launch in the Spring the Government's Help to Buy scheme has proved popular with Bristol house hunters looking to secure a new home in the city.

One development that has seen a surge of buyers use the initiative is Crest Nicholson's Harbourside where the selection of one, two and three-bedroom apartments have drawn in buyers keen to live next to the city's floating harbour.

Launched at the beginning of April, the Help to Buy scheme gives people on all stages of the property ladder the opportunity to purchase a new home with a deposit of just five per cent.

And with 12 properties already sold using the scheme, this proves its popularity.

Under the scheme, the Government will lend up to 20 per cent of the value of the property through an equity loan.

This means the purchaser will have to pay just 80 per cent the cost of the property – made up of a 75 per cent mortgage and five per cent deposit.

Sales and marketing director Susan Young says the initiative has proved particularly appealing at Harbourside and from those wanting to live in Bristol's bustling city-centre.

Susan said: "Sales at Harbourside remained strong even throughout the depths of the recession but Help to Buy has opened up the market to even more house hunters and is reflected in our own sales figures.

"It seems that buyers initially took time to digest exactly how Help to Buy would work. Once they were happy they would then see which of the new developments in the region fitted their buying criteria with Harbourside clearly appealing to a high proportion of people.

"Harbourside has always proved popular. What Help to Buy has done is open up the development on more levels and we're delighted that those wanting to live in the heart of Bristol have made Harbourside their choice."

Available on properties up to the value of £600,000 the scheme is a great opportunity for all types of house hunter wanting to own a new home at this iconic development.

From well-heeled investors to first time buyers and downsizers the wide range of property styles available at Harbourside are ideal.

Susan added: "With the scheme open to properties up to the value of £600,000 it means that all properties currently available at the development fall within the Help to Buy initiative and is great news for those looking to buy here."

With properties selling fast, those interested are now being advised to act soon. This includes just three, one-bedroom apartments and are perfect those wanting to buy their first property, downsizers or those looking for a city-centre pad.

Susan said: "The superb location coupled with the sheer variety of property we have available has attracted people down to the Harbourside to take a look for themselves. What Help to Buy has done is turn casual visitors to potential buyers and savers to owners and has really delivered on its promise.

"Bristol city centre offers everything for work, rest and play and boasts one of the most vibrant waterside environments in the country. Fantastic shops, clubs, new restaurants, galleries and museums mean there's always something going on.

"Help to Buy has proved more popular in Bristol than it has in some other parts of the country. Critics have claimed it has simply pumped up an already rising market rather than helped people take that first step on the property ladder.

"The increased activity we have seen means time really is running out for people wanting to get their hands on a property at Harbourside."
