Commuters are warned that from Monday, November 14, for 10 days men will be working along the road from Nailsea to Clevedon.

Bristol Water contractors will be cleaning a 4,224 metre length of water pipe that runs from Tickenham to Northern Way Clevedon.

This work will not affect customers' supplies but there will be some traffic restrictions.

Washing Pound Lane near the church and garden centre will be closed for long periods in the day time.

Signs will advise on the periods it is closed.

And from Monday to Wednesday, November 21- 23, there will be two-way traffic controls on Tickenham Road B3130 close to Clevedon Court.

Additionally, on Monday, November 21, for an hour around midday, workmen will use stop/go boards outside the Clevedon Treatment Works.

A Bristol Water spokesman said: "This is essential work to maintain the high standard of the local water supply.

"We do not expect any supply problems though it is possible that pressure could be affected for a short time in a few areas.

"A cleaning process called Ice-pigging, which Bristol Water helped to develop, has proved an innovative, simple and highly effective technique for cleaning pipes and ducts.

"A thick ice slurry or 'ice pig' is pumped into the pipe and picks up sediment and other particles as it travels.

"The ice is removed at the end of the pipe without the need for an excavation.

"The semi-solid properties of slush ice means that like a liquid it can be pumped, can adapt and flow through complex pipe systems.

"The process is efficient, rapid and environmentally friendly."
