The Crown Glass Shopping Centre in Nailsea is backing this weekend's first UK Small Business Saturday, when shoppers are encouraged to support the nation's small businesses.
And many of the Centre's own independents are taking part in the initiative too. Centre manager Charlotte Jarrett said: "Crown Glass has worked really hard to encourage a good mix of small independents shops alongside the national brand names in the Centre and it's great to see national recognition for their role in the economy."
Shops backing the Small Business Saturday programme include The Blue Room, Ewe Knit 20, Occasions, Partysmartys, Gifted, Burchills, Orchards, Parsons, Butterfly Travel and
Four new independently-owned businesses have opened in the Centre within the past two months, marking a return to occupancy levels not seen there for many years.
Peter Waring opened the Occasions shop in the former Clinton Cards store in Colliers Walk and Felicity Ralfs opened her independent Butterfly Travel agency in Crown Glass Place.
Also among the new arrivals were the Partysmartys shop of Fran Hunt, and Emily Rickard's Ewe-Knit 20 - the two winners of the centre's Win a Shop competition which ran earlier in the year..
Charlotte Jarrett added: "The organisers have chosen to hold the first Small Business Saturday in the UK on one of the busiest shopping days of the year - the first Saturday in December – and we hope lots of people will come along and show their support."
