Women from North Somerset are being invited to sign up for the annual Cancer Research Race for Life.

Last year thousands of local women braved horrid weather conditions to take part in the races on Weston beach and at The Downs, Bristol.

Race for Life is not a competitive event, it is about women of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness levels coming together to 'join the girls' and help beat cancer.

Women taking part can  walk, jog or run the 5k or 10k courses and revel in Race for Life's unique atmosphere of sisterhood.

One-in-three people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives.

But the good news is that more people are beating the disease than ever before.

Cancer Research UK's work is at the heart of that progress.

Race for Life is the UK's biggest fight against cancer and the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK.

Since Race for Life began in 1994, an incredible six million participants have raised more than £493million.

This is more than any other UK event series raising money to fund cancer research.

Some of the Race for Life women take part in celebration of surviving a cancer experience.

Others take part in memory of a loved one or to give hope to a cancer-free future.

But everyone shares a common goal: to raise money for Cancer Research UK's groundbreaking work and to help save more lives.

The money raised so far has been used to fund the work of more than 4,000 researchers, doctors and nurses dedicated to helping more people beat cancer.

The events in our area are:

  • 5k 11am Sunday, June 2, at Weston-super-Mare beach. Runners need to arrive at least an hour before the start. There is limited paid parking on the beach and on the promenade and it costs £1 for participants who show their running number;
  • 10K 2pm Saturday, July 6 at The Downs, Bristol; and
  • 5K 11am Sunday, July 7, at The Downs, Bristol.

Bristol runners are strongly recommend to use public transport or car share for their Race for Life event.

There is very limited parking on surrounding roads and at Clifton Down shopping centre which is served by a local train station 15 minutes walk away.

People can enter online by clicking HERE or call 0871 641 111.

It costs £14.99 to enter and all money goes to the charity.
