FLOODLIT cricket complete with white balls and coloured clothing is coming to the Chew Valley area on July 20.

Bishop Sutton Football Club is to host a four-team 10/10 competition involving the village's cricket team plus sides from Chew Magna, Harptree and Temple Cloud later this month.

An artificial wicket will be laid at the soccer ground, which will host three matches – two semi-finals and the final.

Games will be ten overs per side, with five bowlers able to send down a maximum of two overs apiece.

The action is due to start at 6.15pm and be completed by around 11pm.

Bishop Sutton football official Steve Hillier said: "The tournament was the idea of our first-team manager Lee Lashenko who is a big supporter of the local community and local sports.

"It's going to be free to come in, and we're hoping to attract a good crowd. We're posting 2,500 leaflets through letter boxes in the four villages, and posters are going up in all the local pubs and shops.

"We know that a lot depends on the weather but we have to have at least one decent night this summer!"

The event is being sponsored by Chew Valley Estates and will also feature live music and a barbecue, and could become part of the annual calendar if successful.

Polly Griffiths compiled the fine figures of 3-11 from eight overs, including four maidens, but still finished on the losing side as Gloucestershire women's under-17s went down by 114 runs away to Sussex at Blackstone CC.

The home side reached 210-8 from their 45 overs, Eve Alder (2-9 from six) and Hannah Cockram (2-43) also making an impression. But Gloucestershire were always on the back foot with the bat, with Cockram (35 not) and Griffiths (16) the only players to reach double figures in an all out reply of 96.

Kevin Sibley (3-13), Rob Watkins (2-9) and Josh Stevenson (2-14) laid the foundations for Dyrham & Hinton's five-wicket win at Chipping Sodbury in the Village League.

Sodbury were bowled out for 125 before opener Dan Brown (41) and Rich Elliott (30) put Dyrham on their way to victory.

Mark Fisher (4-7 from four) and Matt Owen (2-19) bowled Barrow Gurney under-13s to a nine-run home win over Long Ashton in the North Somerset Youth League.

Guy Fisher (30 not out) helped the home side reach 110-2 before the visitors came up short.

Skipper Joe Hance (33 not out) guided Cleeve to a nine-wicket success at Winford, and captain Sam Iles' 20 was crucial in Nailsea's 11-run home success over Congresbury.
