Woke up early on Monday morning to joyous shrieks from the children who thought their schools were closed again.

However it was a blip as North Somerset Council hadn't updated its website.

The district council link said it on its website the information was correct at 6.43am today and then listed nearly all the schools as closed.

But the happiness of the youngsters was short lived as a local deputy head teacher confirmed the list was out-of-date.

A frantic flurry of activity as students re-texted, Twittered and went on Facebook to inform fellow pupils they would after all be journeying out in the cold...

Late on Friday North Somerset Council services and staff were happy with how they had planned for and reacted to the first snow of the winter.

Help by the advanced weather warnings on Thursday contingency plans were put into operation overnight which helped the snowy situation as people woke on Friday morning.

Gritting vehicles were out on the main highway routes across the district to help keep the transport network moving.

The council grits about 29 per cent of the total road network in North Somerset.

Snow ploughs have been clearing any accumulations of snow and slush and all main routes are open to traffic with just three road closed on the gritting routes.

But by Monday the slush had turned to deadly ice as the temperatures plummeted.

The advice is to take extreme caution on both treated and untreated routes.

Recycling and waste collections were suspended on Friday due to safety concerns about crews and vehicles accessing properties not on the main gritted routes.

The advice to residents is to leave out their wheeled bins or council-issued grey sacks and crews will be back from Monday onwards to collect.

Recycling and food waste boxes and containers should be brought in and put out on next week's normal collection day.

Green waste should be brought in and put out again on next month's green waste collect .

Bristol Airport said flights are operating and it expects to operate a normal schedule.

However, passengers are advised to drive carefully and leave extra time for their journey.

And North Somerset Coaches reports its X54s are out and running.

St Katherine's School at Pill and Backwell School are both open so X5 and 2C will also run as normal today.
