An apprentice from the region's leading health club is now a fully qualified gym instructor having attained his Gym NVQ Level II.
Dave Jackson at theclub, Cadbury House, Congresbury
Having passed this latest qualification Dave Jackson (21) who comes from Weston, is now working full time at the award-winning health club at Cadbury House in Congresbury, where he is now helping members achieve their goals and offering advice on technique and training programmes.
At a time when more young people are finding it harder to get work, many are turning to apprentice schemes to not only gain qualifications but also work experience in their chosen field.
Dave is now advising anyone thinking about their future to seriously consider an apprentice scheme as he has not only been able to get qualified but gain valuable experience at the region's leading independent health club.
With Dave now working at the health club has meant a new apprentice has joined the team with Sam Pengelley who comes from Congresbury now learning the ropes.
Dave said: "I'm delighted to have now gained this latest qualification and my goal now is to now get my personal training qualification.
"I'm the first to admit I wasn't that interested in college so an apprenticeship was perfect for me.
"To be able to work at an award-winning health club and gain qualifications is a dream come true and I'd highly recommend this route for anyone who is interested."
With a variety of options open to join an apprentice scheme Dave used the apprenticeships.org.uk website rather than come via a college.
And having spotted an advert on the website Dave arranged to meet club manager Jason Eaton who was suitably impressed and offered him a role back in early 2012.
Jason Eaton, manager at theclub added: "Firstly I'd like to congratulate Dave on his latest qualification. It goes to show what can be achieved when someone applies themselves to their goals.
"We have taken on apprentices at the health club and the spa for many years. They bring fresh energy and skills to our organisation and it has been great to work closely with local colleges.
"We find the apprenticeship scheme works fantastically well for us. Not only does it give young people the chance to get out there and gain invaluable experience within a business like ours, but we have met some amazing talent over the years and ended up making them a permanent part of the team.
"It's also great that we have now taken on a new apprentice and wish Sam the best of luck over the coming months."
Dave added: "When the opportunity to gain experience at Cadbury House came up I jumped at the chance. I've learnt so much more than I would have by being just in the class room. I'm actually part of the business here so have to perform - if I don't customers won't come back and that makes it real."
